Life with cats

Soft your whiskers, tickling,
your feet, delicately
padding across the bed to
curl next to my face,
waking me with your
gentle throaty humming.
I look up to see
your golden eyes,
their sly kindness as you
watch my grumbling yawns
with perfect meticulous
understanding. If I doze
too long, you begin to groom
me, gently tugging my hair
with your fine curved claws
until, irritated, I rise.
You scamper ahead to the dish,
then settle there with
expectant leisure,
for the slow waitress
to bring your breakfast.
